Trespassing Citation from Boulder County Attorney Ben Pearlman
On Tuesday, November 7, 2017, the Boulder County Protectors (BCP) stood outside of the Boulder Theater during Boulder’s celebration of the 50th anniversary of the city’s open space program. In an effort to educate the public on the imminent threat of oil & gas drilling on Boulder County Open Space, flyers were handed out, green punch, labeled “fracking fluid” was served, and a light projection “Ban Fracking!” image was projected onto the exterior wall of the old courthouse off the Pearl Street Mall.
Boulder County Attorney Ben Pearlman instructed Boulder City Police to issue a BCP member with a trespassing citation for the light projection. But a legal expert with the American Civil Liberties Union said the man was within his constitutional rights.
This is a vivid example of the Boulder County government colluding to shut down the public discussion and education on the topic of fracking and poisoning the environment, as they attempt to bring fracking into Boulder County. Click here for the BCP member’s response to the trespassing citation.
